Planning law and practical application of planning policy
Join us for an insightful discussion on planning law and the practical application of planning policy, hosted by Six Pump Court in partnership with the Community Communications Partnership. This event will bring together leading experts to explore how legal frameworks shape planning decisions and how policy is applied in practice:
Dr Phélim Mac Cafferty Account Director
The former Leader of Brighton & Hove City Council, with twelve years as a councillor, Phélim also chaired the planning committee. He has rich experience of leading the day-to-day interactions in Public Consultation and Stakeholder Engagement. He holds a PhD in Architecture and the Built Environment.
Duncan Enright Account Director
Duncan is Deputy Leader of a District Council and has served on County Cabinet as transport strategy lead. He spent 10 years on the planning committee. He has wide knowledge on the workings of local government and also serves as an elected representative on Labour's National Policy Forum.
William Upton KC Barrister
William is a leading planning barrister with extensive experience across planning inquiries, development plans, and related litigation. He regularly acts for local authorities, developers, and third parties on complex planning matters, including housing land supply, viability, and environmental impact assessments.
Anne Williams Barrister
Anne has over 20 years of experience in advising and appearing for developers and public authorities at Planning Inquiries, Hearings and in the High Court and the Court of Appeal. Anne also appears at rights of way inquiries and is regularly instructed by a large number of authorities throughout England.
Peter Cruickshank Barrister
Peter specialises in planning and environment work. Peter's work includes planning inquiries, and advisory and High Court work regarding challenges to the merits of planning decisions. Peter advises and represents clients on planning enforcement cases, and he is the co- editor of key chapters of Butterworths Planning Law Service.

A New Labour Government: Oxfordshire
What does this mean for development in Oxfordshire?
Please join us for a "Question Time" discussion to explore how the new government's policies and housing numbers will shape the future development in Oxfordshire.
This event will be chaired in Oxford by Roger Smith, Planning Director at Savills, and a panel of leading local politicians will join him.
This event is brought to you by The Community Communications Partnership and Savills.
Update: We will hold a similar event in May 2025, chaired by Roger Smith, which will explore the results of the county elections and their consequences for development in Oxfordshire and the surrounding region.

New Government in Focus
As the political landscape shifts with the incoming Labour government, we would like to help provide insight into the direction of government policy and how upcoming changes may impact our industry.
This event will offer a unique opportunity to engage directly with prominent Labour Party politicians including our team of in-house experts. The co-chairs for the discussion are Duncan Enright, Denise Hyland, and Ian Ward. You will have the chance to gain understanding of Labour’s policy priorities, ask questions, and examine the potential implications for the planning process and housing development.
To ensure a meaningful and interactive experience, we have a maximum capacity of 40 in-person attendees. Tickets will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
